Seea was founded in the DIY spirit that if you have an idea, you can make it happen. For me, this idea was simple: To create rashguards and suits that were stylish, functional and comfortable for surfing. As a supporter of creative artists, Thalia Surf Shop was one of the first retailers to carry SEEA, and has been one of our main supporters over the last two years, helping transform a dreamy idea into reality.

Made with the hopes of inspiring others to follow their dreams, we proudly present MADE IN THE USA, a short video following the creation of our second custom project with Thalia, from concept to the factory to the surf.

For our second exclusive collaboration with Thalia, owner Nick Cocores came along for the ride (or in this case, actually drove the swanky VW bug) to see the step-by-step production process of the Thalia x Seea Doheny rashguard, Swami's playsuit and surf leggings.

Yes, we really drove all the way from Hamburg to downtown Los Angeles in a convertible on the freeway!

From digging through bolts of fabric and mountains of zippers to watching the pieces being sewn in the downtown Los Angeles factory, it was all documented in moving pictures to show the care and personal touch that is put into the making of a Seea suit—the swimsuit version of the farm-to-table method. Proudly made in the U.S.A.

As we near the end of SEEA's first amazing trip around the sun, we thought the time was right for a look back on our designs for 2012. Quite possibly the best women's rashguard ever, the Doheny was produced in 13 different colors, each one in limited runs of 100 or less, all made right here in downtown LA.

With a bright mix of color & print, SEEA founder Amanda Chinchelli shook up surf's standard pallet, and like everything else SEEA, she did so with plenty of style. Yoki's Garden Grows

Recently Jeff Yokoyama (of Generic Youth fame), invited us to bring Seea to his small, well curated workshop in Newport Beach, AKA, the Yokishop! Aside from being the main showroom for Generic Youth, Jeff's workshop is also the creative nexus for Yoki's Garden, an amazing project involving the repurposing of used USC athletic gear into anything from T-shirts and shorts to overstuffed bean bags. We were excited to meet and talk with Jeff, and flattered to be given such a prominent display within the store!! Much aloha to Jeff and Scott for the support!

If the Yokishop wasn't enough coolness per square foot, this small section of the West Coast Highway got that much cooler when the boys from Almond Surfboards moved in next door! With their grand opening just behind them, Dave and his brother Jeffrey have created a hotbed of fine surfboards, craftsmanship, and design, perfect for the logging connoisseur. We were particularly impressed by the hand crafted bike and surfboard displays, stylishly cantilevered for optimum visual effect. Nice job guys, and best of luck in the new location!!

Good times in Venice - Deus & Fin Soup

The fine folks at Deus Ex Machina brought together a select group of board builders and surf enthusiasts to spice up their first-ever surf swap in the new Venice location. More of a get together than an actual swap, the event was well catered and well attended, with live bands and variety of fine surf wares, including custom bags by Schuyler McFerran, and boards from Kookbox, Josh Hall, & Bing.

The VW bus tent got lots of love, as usual - front & center with the suits on display!

With the Launch LA tradeshow just around the corner, we've been crazy busy preparing for the show, including sending out our invites - these beautiful vintage postcards from the 60's & 70's. When we first approached Summer from Surfy Surfy about carrying Seea, she was a bit confused...

I remember sitting in the shop after seeing the line, sort of in a daze, trying to wrap my head around what I had just seen... "Who is this girl?", I thought. "What is she doing??" I loved Amanda's designs, but simply put - I had never seen anything like SEEA before!

Since that day, Amanda and Summer have become good friends, and we've developed a great relationship with JP and the crew at Surfy Surfy. We are supremely stoked to introduce the Seea x Surfy Surfy collab project, and we are honored to be the only women's swimwear brand carried at the hub of Leucadia's surf culture!

When we found out that Tiffany Campbell was interested in shooting Seea's SP2013 promo video, we won't lie, we were beaming from ear to ear! If you dont know who Tiffany Campbell is, she is a film maker who co-directed the acclaimed surf film "Dear & Yonder" and like us, she is a graceful slider of the sea. The day went by smoother than anyone could have hoped, starting from way too early in the morning till sun down, and we wanted to give you a little sneak peek of how the day went down.

As our fans & blog followers might recall, Darren from Black Duck Ding Repair helped us out a few months ago to create a special Seea x Surf Indian lamp. Lots has happened since then, including installing their custom display, but somehow wrapping up the lamp project got swept pretty far under the rug! Well, the special colored gels arrived the mail this week, so we figured it was high time to finish this project once and for all!

Pretty simple concept: Cut the colored "gels" to fit the lamp panels, tack em' down & light it up!

The fiberglass panels were cut to fit, and slid easily into place.

The final product got lots of likes on Instagram. We like it, too!!

Making History at Mitch's North!

We've shown you blog lovers lots of DIY projects so far this Summer, but this one is by far our favorite! Designed by request for Mitch's Surf Shop in Solana Beach, you'll be hard pressed to find a more creative use of 28" of wall space anywhere else in town!

Check the miniature version of the little TV on the bottom shelf - it's the remote!

White jeans and a tool kit - Summer came prepared!!

The display went up and double shakas went down! Summer and Tony share the stoke.

Crafted with love from vintage, re-purposed wood, this particular display comes complete with a portable Quasar color TV from 1985. In business since forever, Mitch's Solana Beach was in the same building back then, and has functioned as important hub for the surfboard manufacturing and business for over 30 years.

Seea is honored to become a part of that history, as the first women's swimwear line ever to be sold at Mitch's North! It's a perfect fit, and we are delighted to work together with a shop that has so much heritage, and a crew filled with so much surf stoke!

Museum Quality

Who would have ever thought Seea would end up in a museum?? Well, if you stop by the California Surf Museum in Oceanside, you'll find that's exactly the case!

Considering that some of the original ideas behind Seea were actually inspired by a visit to the museum itself, (See our previous post on Julie Cox and the Woman on Waves exhibit), things really start to make sense. It's a great feel-good story, and a tribute to the importance of the CSM, and it's ability to inspire others to look at their history and create something fresh and new.

We love Julie, but then again - who doesn't? We are thankful and humbled by her support!

Our busy handyman whipped out another custom display - this old house siding gets a new life!

And away it goes!
