Read on to hear from one of the MexiLogFest judges, Julie Cox who told us it's all about subtlety.

The finalists! Photo courtesy of MexiLogFest.  The colorful surf-centric Sayulita on a normal day: vibrating with the energy of artists, musicians, tourists, surfers, yogis and creative folks from around the world, basking in the free-spirited beach lifestyle. Sayulita during the MexiLogFest 2016: dial it up to 11, raise the bar on longboard talent, and flood the town with more international amigos coming revel in the three-day bender of stylish surfing and partying.

This wasn't a traditional surf contest with events like the Tag Team tournament to keep the mood in the water fun, versus cut throat. But still, there’s $2K on the line and these cats have the Noosa Festival in Australia as next on the tour stop. “It is still definitely competitive though,” Julie Cox, one of the judges told us.

Exactly how do you judge this kind of contest? Julie Cox told us her criteria for crowning the winners of the MexiLogFest.

The difference between good and great style:

Julie Cox: “It is soooo hard to judge surfing period,” Julie says. “But, there are small things that make a difference in style. For example, cross-stepping versus shuffling, hands flailing or hands and arms calm and steady, torso straight versus hunched over, kicking out with control, or falling on waves. How people drop into the wave is something I look at. There are so many subtleties. It is very subjective and good style is in the eye of the beholder.”

How waves were judged at the festival:

Julie Cox: “The judges at the MexiLogFest all agreed to judge on the beginning, middle and end of the rides with the most dynamic maneuvers including noseriding, turns, floaters, and style. Comparing two surfers is incredibly difficult because they each have their own style and flair they bring to the wave — their own personality... I liked seeing a big maneuver on the outside where the wave was the most critical. The surfing talent was really high: very fine tuned, stylish surfing going on down there in Sayulita.”

Only good vibes please:

Julie Cox: "The energy seemed super smiley and positive. The heat was intense so there was a lot of chilling at the house in the shade between their heats. The MexiLog Fest brought a great group of people down who seemed pretty humble and appreciative of having a logging contest."

Congrats to the winners and everyone who participated! Go to the MexiLogFest website for all the winners and forthcoming photos and videos about the spectacular event!

When do you ever get Malibu this good all to yourself and three friends at a time? Last weekend, the typically thick line-up at First Point became an empty stage for the solo wave dancers competing at the 2015 MSA Classic Invitational. For anyone who's surfed Malibu's magical point at its best (with the worst of crowds), open space like this is basically flying through the blue skies and fluffy clouds of heaven. The fun waves rolled on all weekend, plus warm water, plus scorching hot weather. Find us under the umbrella shade between heats.

Congrats to the Seeababes who placed in the events: Makala Smith: 3rd in the Women's Logger Pro, Karina Rozunko: 1st in Junior Women, Mele Saili: 2nd in Women 20-34, and Taylor Nelson: 3rd in Women 20-34.

Big thank you and shakas to Erin Ashley for organizing the Women's Logger Pro Event and assembling some of the best lady longboarders around to play together!

Seea and Bing have been friends forever — sharing several team riders and countless weekend family beach days together — and we were stoked to finally have a party to celebrate Seea being sold at the Bing Surf Shop in Encinitas!

Southern California got some much-needed rain in the morning, and the clouds cleared with sunny skies just in time for the party people trickling in to the Bing Surf Shop at 5pm on Friday, May 15. It was incredible to meet new faces and watch their stoke, eyes glued to the TV while the "Seea in Italy" film by Onde Nostre, "Intimasea" by Nathan Oldfield, and 2015 collection film by Michael Weybret played all night. Think about looking behind you at everyone's faces in a movie theater — super cool!

Seeababe Mele Saili had her paintings and drawings displayed, met with art lovers and sold a few pieces too! Check out special T-shirts for sale only in store at the Bing Surf Shop featuring Mele Saili's artwork. Big thanks to everyone who came out to toast glasses filled with ZIOBAFFA with us, and to the folks at Bing for their hospitality.

Byron Bay Surf Festival 2014!

We imagine that the Byron Bay Surf Festival is like a surfer's version of Coachella, but even better because it's at the beach! The three-day festival held Oct. 24-26 was a coastal bum’s dream of sensorial happiness: live music concerts, surf movie screenings, expression sessions, yoga, SurfLit Lounge, artists and brands selling awesome stuff and way more events to please the eyes, ears, body and creative mind than we can list.

Seeababes Makala Smith, Leana Rack and Chrystal Fitzgerald were up in it all last weekend and still smiling days after from the vibes. They guided us through some of their festival highlights!

All the surf-related events were held at Wategos Beach, a gorgeous world class point break. Board demos and expression sessions had the water packed all weekend long, and even the sand was a space for creativity. Sand drawings were done by a local artist that gets up at 4am to draw on the fresh and untouched beach.

There was plenty of socializing and happenings to check out between surf sessions, or just have a minute to take it all in.

The inspiring story of Pascale Honore in the Surf Lit series was an inspiration to show that anybody can surf. Pascale became a paraplegic 19 years ago as a result of a car accident and had always wanted to surf from spending so much time watching on the shore. One of her son's friends Ty Swan strapped her on his back and they were off, Duct Tape Surfing!

There are surf contests and then there’s the Deus Bali 9ft and Single Log Fest. This friendly gathering of ocean fanatics surfing in fine waves together felt like it was more about feeding off of each other’s good vibes than anyone winning or losing.

Seeababe Mele Saili (placed 3rd) was honored to be apart of the first invite-only women’s expression session on Sunday, June 1 where she paddled out next to Kassia Meador (placed 2nd), Jen Smith, Leah Dawson (congrats to Leah for being crowned the winner), Erin Ashley, Ryo Bay and Borabora Hwang.

"It was a completely surreal and an honor to have the chance to surf with the women I grew up idolizing," Mele says. "For the women's heat it was head high plus. The conditions pushed everyone to take their surfing to the next level. The obvious stand outs of the whole contest were Leah Dawson and Devon Howard who both received 1st places."

The whole weekend from May 29 – June 1 had a bunch of rad happenings going on: an Andy Davis art show opening at the Deus Temple of Enthusiam in Canggu, a Bali Fish Fry displaying an enviable spread of boards, a shaper’s forum and of course different surfing events divided by the wavecraft (9ft and up, under 9ft, hand plane body whomping).

"It was a great way to meet and mingle with everyone that traveled from all different parts of the world to get here, just for this contest," Mele says of the experience. "Once I got here I was amazed how you can just hop on a scooter with your board and ride past all the open rice patties on your way to the beach. This is my first time to Bali and found the waves to have so much more power and speed than back home."

Shakas to Mele Saili, Lola Mignot, Karina Rozunko and Makala Smith for the awesome display of pretty lady gliding at The Noosa Festival of Surfing in Australia last week! The dreamy point break lit up during the contest days and our hearts swelled to see photos of our friends surfing with graceful style and smiles on their faces.

Every year some of the best surfers from all over the world gather at the Noosa Festival of Surfing for a weeklong party reunion. All kinds of wavecraft are ridden, yet its dominated by old school logging that Noosa's glassy perfection is made for. Congrats to Mele, Lola, Karina and Makala for placing in the top 10 in women's division!

Trace in their cross-steps with this photo tour of the 2014 Noosa Festival. Special thanks to Nathan Oldfield and newest addition to the Seeababe family, Chrystal Dawn Fitzgerald for the stunning photos.

According to Chrystal, the Noosa festival had a humble start with an emphasis on families and gathering together for the love of surfing. Even though the festival now welcomes the very best surfers from around the world, the love of surfing motto and family teams divisions remain.

"During the festival Noosa turns on her charm," says Chrystal, who photographed the event. "Open air venues and restaurants along the beach and street are packed. Here on Hastings Street, international surf films make their debuts, incredible musicians like the Band of Frequencies jam into the night, and interesting artist, surfers and surfing legends mingle thorough the week."

Walking from first point where the contest is held to Noosa National Park, Chrystal says it becomes "this beautiful nexus of smiles, interesting boards, surf reports, koalas, skateboards, sunscreen, ice creams, and hugs. It's a haven for long-boarding, surf history enthusiasm and a delight to be a part of even if you can't stay the whole week. If you do stay though the week, and happen to be blessed with swell your a different human by the end of it."

Art by Mele Saili on the walls at Shaper Studios

Ladies flowed in and out throughout the day and each wave of Seea sample sale shoppers made for a fun unofficial fashion show. Next, Christine Brailsford got inside the shaping room like a fish tank and sanded down one of the very first Seea surfboard collaborations. Eager girl shapers to-be asked Christine questions about the completed Seea surfboard on display that features Mele's painting under a stunning seafoam green glassing. We hope it inspired them to come back to get their first lesson to shape their own board at Shaper Studios!

Continuing on into the evening hours the wooden walls got packed to the brim and inevitably turned into a dance party with Manuel Caro on the turntables. By the end of the night, Mele sold out of every painting. Big thanks to everyone who came out to support and to Shaper Studios for hosting!

We were extremely excited to meet with Need Supply from Richmond, Virginia and On The Beach from South Padre Island, Texas, as they will be the first accounts to carry Seea in their respective states! It was also great to meet the friendly new buyers from online retro icons Modcloth, and the original surf shop in Goleta, CA, Sundance Beach.

Who needs a ride?
We love California. Heaven-sent splendid weather.
Petite girls get more mini-barrels! Amy grabs rail.
Mele Saili takes the high line on her self-shaped mid-length
Back at camp, boys and their motortoys. Thalia had the coolest wheels of all kinds.

We couldn't resist joining in on the fun.

"Some people say surfing is the hardest sport on earth, that if you can surf, you can do anything. I also know that when things go right, it's about the most fun you can possibly have. By surfing every day, I hope to honor all those who have been affected by Breast Cancer and that my determination will inspire people to become involved." Sarah Hughen

A wave a day mission is to surf 365 days with no exceptions to raise funds and awareness for the fight against Breast Cancer.

October is breast cancer awareness month, and October 29th marks Sarah's half way. 6 months down - 6 more to go!
So save the date and come celebrate this great event at the beautiful Cardiff Reef.
Seea will be there to support this great cause.
The event starts at 10 am with beach clean up, group paddle out at 12, Bing Surf board demo and wellness treatments by Indigo Dragon.
Shop Seea and 50% of the profit will be donated to the amazing Keep a Breast Foundation.

Hope to see you there...
SHAKA MUCHACHAS!

This year the Cardiff 101 Main Street is teaming with Rerip, an organization dedicated to creating accountability, measurability and sustainability to the surf industry.
We've donated two of our new suits to the charitable auction, and will be displaying the full line of Seea suits at the Bing Surfboards booth (thanks guys!), so come on out, show your support and get to know us.

Some suits will be for sale at the booth and we'll give a special discount to the girls participating at the contest.
